Thomas More College Mourns Loss of Benefactor Robert Novak

by Thomas More College on August 18, 2009

NovakThe Thomas More College community mourns the death of Robert Novak D. Novak, lifelong journalist, author, and political commentator. In 2008, Mr. Novak established the Robert D. Novak Scholarship Fund at the Thomas More College of Liberal Arts to provide minority high school graduates from the inner-city with a rigorous, orthodox Catholic education for four years. In 2006, Novak was awarded an honorary degree by the College.

Mr. Novak benefited in his own life from a liberal arts education, which he credited with forming his own critical acumen, dogged pursuit of the truth, and writing skills. He generously chose to offer less fortunate, promising youths the same opportunity that enabled him to succeed both as a scribe and as a citizen.

Thomas More College president Dr. William Fahey said, “Like so many others, we are saddened by Mr. Novak’s passing, but we also rejoice and celebrate his remarkable life. Mr. Novak will be remembered for his generous heart and his tireless pursuit of Truth, which ultimately led him to the Catholic faith. He was a champion of liberal arts education, and was a gifted writer and journalist. Our prayers are with his wife, Geraldine, his children, and his grandchildren. We ask that all members of the Thomas More College community join the faculty and staff in praying for the repose of his soul.”

Thomas More College will offer a Mass for the repose of Mr. Novak’s soul this week.
