(Merrimack, New Hampshire)—The Thomas More College of Liberal Arts is hosting its annual Winter Open House on President’s Day, Monday, February 15, 2010. A schedule may be found on the College’s web site at www.ThomasMoreCollege.edu/OpenHouse.

Open to all high school students and their families, this event will enable those who are seeking an authentically Catholic college to experience a day in the life of a Thomas More College student.

The Open House begins at 8:30am with a welcome reception of coffee and pastries in the College’s historic Bowers-Blanchard House. At 9:00am, participants will proceed to the Library for two classes – Euclidean Geometry and Roman and Early Christian Culture. At 11:30am, interested students can attend Mass, followed by lunch with the College’s professors and students at 12:15pm. A tour of campus will begin after lunch.

To answer questions about the College, the admissions process, or student life, the College’s Director of Admissions, Mark Schwerdt, will convene a panel of current students immediately following lunch.

The final course of the day will feature the College’s artist-in-residence, David Clayton, who will give a brief introduction to a unique class that he pioneered called The Way of Beauty Program. Here, participants will learn the basic techniques of Western art and iconography.

At 2:00pm, the Winter Open House will conclude with a reception hosted by President William Fahey.

“Our Open House is a great opportunity for high school students to see what Thomas More College is all about,” said Mark Schwerdt, Director of Admissions. “We have an exceptionally strong student body that is committed to the Catholic Faith and the life of the mind. This event provides a wonderful chance for students who are looking for an authentically Catholic college with a strong liberal arts program to meet and speak with like-minded young people who are deeply engaged with the Catholic liberal arts tradition.”

The College welcomes overnight guests and encourages all who are interested in attending the Open House to contact the office of admissions at 800-880-8308 or via email at admissions@thomasmorecollege.edu.

Several dozen schools and parishes throughout New England have posted flyers on Thomas More College’s Open House. For anyone who would like to receive the poster, please contact Mark Schwerdt at (800) 880-8308 or by email at mschwerdt@thomasmorecollege.edu.

The Thomas More College of Liberal Arts provides a four-year undergraduate education which develops young people intellectually, ethically, and spiritually in the Catholic tradition and in faithfulness to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church. Thomas More College introduces its students to the central questions of Western civilization – and to the Church’s response. It teaches skills in reasoning, speaking, and writing that will allow its graduates to become faithful leaders according to the individual vocations which God has given them. In recent years, the College has allowed the strength of its curriculum to radiate out into several new initiatives, such as its Vatican Studies Center, Center for Faith and Culture (Oxford, England), and the Way of Beauty Program. Through the lectures, books, workshops and other programs hosted by these centers, Thomas More College is consistently seeking new and better ways of communicating perennial truths amid the confusion of contemporary society.
